Noam Gil

Noam Gil

Noam Gil is an award-winning Israeli playwright, screenwriter, and director known for his sharp, psychologically charged work. His writing — darkly humorous and deeply attuned to modern anxieties — has quickly made him one of the most exciting new voices in Israeli theater.

His work is set in recognizable worlds: a living room, a back yard, a workplace — where something is always slightly wrong and getting worse.

In the plays of Noam Gil, dramaturgical patterns drawn primarily from Anglo-American culture are skillfully woven and translated — ranging from Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Edward Albee, and Sarah Kane to David Mamet and the Coen Brothers. His ability to listen to characters in extreme situations and to articulate them across both high and low registers of language is exceptional, and it feels fresh and direct also because it is keenly aware of the pace that the current generation is accustomed to.
