Lady Amar is a poor woman who imagines herself part of society's elite — the wife of an aristocratic European entrepreneur who lives the life of the rich and the famous.

The play begins with three young individuals taking a woman against her will into a shabby apartment. The older woman, who identifies herself as Pauline Weiss, demands her 'captors' return her home. But they tell her that she is in fact their mother — a Moroccan Jew named Jacqueline A'mar, a poor widow who worked as a housewife for the entirety of her life.

An intensifying battle takes place over the true identity of this mysterious woman. She will not disavow her status, fantastical though it may be, and they will not let her forget her true identity.

The play was also adapted to a film (2022), co-directed by Yigael Sachs and Noam Gil.

Haaretz
“A fascinating play... the dialogues between the mother and her children are funny and liberating, uncovering precisely the stereotypes not only of the 'Orientals,' but the fantastic stereotype of this same 'Oriental' figure on the seemingly liberal 'Europeans.' A ground-breaking play that requires a virtuoso actress.”
Eitan Bloom
The Stage
“Written with excellent expertise of great drama and great dialogue, like a detective riddle.”

“A great joy for lovers of true theatrical art, who are more interested in human destinies than in spectacular effects.”
